William C. Dyer

William C. Dyer Jr., 91, of Warwick passed away Monday, June 22, 2026, at Hope Health Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. Born in Warwick, he was the only child of the late William and Dorothy (Towne) Dyer. Bill was the loving husband of the late Genevieve (Carpenter) to whom he was married for 46 wonderful years. He was the father to David (Melanie) and Nancy Ellen and grandfather to Rosalie. Bill also enjoyed close ties and frequent reunions with his extended families, relationships that brought him great comfort and joy throughout his life.

A lifelong Warwick resident, Bill was a National Honor Society graduate of Lockwood High School. He went on to graduate from a private engineering school and began working for Providence Gas Company as a Draftsman where he made some meaningful friendships. It was around this time he met the love of his life, Genevieve. 

Bill and Gen shared a love built on trust, respect, loyalty, humor, and an enjoyment of life’s simple pleasures. They would travel throughout New England to enjoy some lovely bed and breakfasts, catching up with friends and discovering beautiful views. Bill was a lover of nature and when he wasn’t “puttering around” the yard with his trusty clippers or a rake, he could be found sitting either on the porch in Warwick listening to the crickets or in Jamestown listening to the sound of the waves. You could always find him in his favorite porch rocker taking in the breeze and watching the sailboats drift by.

He was also known to have a soft spot for animals. He never met a dog or cat he didn’t like and was often fond of feeding the few neighborhood felines that viewed him as their friend. In the process, he would end up feeding the occasional opossum as well. In addition to the cats, he made sure to keep the bird feeders and bird bath full so everyone could enjoy a meal safely.

Bill delighted in telling stories and having good conversations with friends, fixing things on his work bench, watching shows about New England, and learning about the marvels of technology. One thing he could never be without was music. From the moment you walked in the door you could hear the radio playing in the background. It was a staple in the household. He also enjoyed classic cars – especially the antique ones which reminded him of the earlier days, and watching college sports (mostly Boston and Providence College).

Above all, Bill cherished his family. He was a devoted husband and father who loved sharing stories of his children’s accomplishments, and he was deeply proud of the people his children became. He would take them vacationing to New Hampshire or Vermont to enjoy the beautiful scenery in the summer and the snowy mountains in the winter.

In his later years his greatest joy was his granddaughter Rosalie, with whom he shared laughter, curiosity, the life skills he believed mattered most: resourcefulness, patience, the ability to appreciate the small things, and of course, Cheez-Its.

Bill will be missed tremendously by those who knew him. He brought laughter everywhere he went and made sure to make people smile with his sense of humor.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026, from 1PM-2PM at the URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick. Burial will follow at Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, 6365 Post Rd., North Kingstown.
