Virginia Hawkins Obituary

Virginia “Ginger” A. Hawkins, 88, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026. Ginger was the daughter of the late Mary L. (Bates) Ballou and Byron Hawkins.

She was the sister of the late Byron “Buddy” Hawkins, Eleanor G. Harris, and Linda J. McGuirl. She was also the aunt of the late Donald L. McGuirl and Dan F. McGuirl. She is survived by her loving niece, Laura A. Sundberg (David), and her nephews Robert E. Harris (Susan), James E. Harris, David J. McGuirl (Maribel), Steven E. Harris (Doreen), and James E. McGuirl, as well as many great- and great-great-nieces (4) and nephews (10).

Ginger was the light of all our lives and was truly loved by everyone who knew her. Her life was one of service, adventure, and deep faith—from her proud days serving in the U.S. Navy while stationed in Hawaii, to her years spent caring for her favorite animals in the horse stables, and to the many cats and kittens she lovingly adopted.

She lived every moment to the fullest. She continued her dedication to others through her work at the Veterans Hospital, and many may remember her smiling face and joyful spirit from her time working at Don’s Pizza. Above all, she was a woman of great faith in God. In keeping with her lifelong spirit of generosity, Ginger chose to donate her body to science, hoping to help others even after her passing.
