Stephen Hinger Obituary

Stephen William Hinger, 71, of East Greenwich, RI died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 14, 2026.  He was the beloved husband of Monette (Cardin) Hinger.

Steve graduated from Warwick Veterans High School, then served his country in the United States Army.  After graduating from The University of Rhode Island, Steve owned and operated Drum Rock Products for 33 years.  Steve grew Drum Rock from a small local business, to a national batter and breading company for the foodservice industry.

Deeply committed to his community, Steve served as Senior Warden of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, was Chairman of the Central Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce, and was the first President of the Warwick Rotary Club to serve two terms.  Steve was dedicated to the Boy Scouts of America throughout his life.  After achieving Eagle Scout in 1973, Steve was inducted into the Order of the Arrow and was awarded the Vigil Honor, awarded the Silver Beaver in 1989, and the George Bucklin Award in 2022, among many others.  Steve served as a Troop Leader, Campmaster, Council Executive Board Member, and was a Florida Sea Base Committee Member.  He also organized the start of Sea Scout Ship 1909.

Steve's life reflected a commitment to leadership and service to others. Most of all, he was a proud husband and father.

Besides his loving wife of 43 years, Steve leaves behind his two daughters, Alexandra Hinger and her fiancé, Nicholas Decibus, of West Warwick, and Amanda Hinger and her partner Pratik Lahiri, of New York.  He also leaves his sister, Alexis Hinger, of Cambridge, NY.  He is predeceased by his parents Adrienne and William Hinger, his brother, Robert Hinger, and his sister, Valerie Chaniewski.

Steve’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday February 27, 2026 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 3257 Post Road, Warwick, RI.  A service will be held at 11:00 am.
