Shirley Henlin Obituary

Shirley Hope (Lenau) Henlin, 98, of Cranston, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024. She was the loving wife of the late Errol H. Henlin. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Harry M. and Marjorie (Swaine) Lenau.

Shirley graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1943 and worked at DuPont Inc. in East Providence for over thirty-eight years before retiring. Married on September 7, 1946, she was a dedicated wife to Errol H. Henlin for over sixty-six years.

In her youth, Shirley was involved in the Rainbow Girls. She later became an avid golfer and was always referred to as the one who hits the ball long and straight down the fairway. Shirley belonged to the Cranston Golf Course for many years and was in the Exeter Golf League. She was also an avid knitter and would make sweaters, blankets, and many other things. Shirley was a talented baker known for her delicious blueberry pies and muffins. She also made lemon squares and finger cakes. Shirley was an excellent shopper and would always leave a store after finding the best bargains.

Shirley was a devout Christian and belonged to All Saints Episcopal Church in Warwick and previously belonged to the Church of the Ascension in Cranston, where her uncle Arthur Would was the minister. She was loved and admired by many people, her family, friends, and acquaintances.

She is survived by her nephew, Keith D. Moffat (Daryl) of Coventry, her nieces, Deborah M. Aubee (Paul) of Moyock, NC and Donna L. Alogna (Paul) of Hamden, CT, eight great-nieces and nephews, and twelve great-great nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Eleanor L. Moffat.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at 11:00AM at THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00AM-11:00AM. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Johnston.
