Sally Irons Obituary

Sally Ann Irons, 92, of West Warwick, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. She was the wife of the late Hubert E. “Bud” Irons. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late William and Rose (O’Shea) Jenkins.

Sally was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School in Providence and received a bachelor’s degree from The University of Rhode Island. She retired from a respected career at New England Telephone Company where she also served as a Union Representative. In her retirement, Sally decided it was time for a second career and became the manager of volunteer services for Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital where she was instrumental in establishing a centralized multi-hospital call center, a revolutionary undertaking at the time.

When Sally finally did actually retire, there was no keeping her away from the Miriam Hospital Gift Shop where she would come to serve as a volunteer buyer into her late eighties. She very much enjoyed her shopping trips for the store and often came home with treasures she loved so much that she ultimately purchased them herself to give to family and friends, or to add to her personal collection. Her volunteerism also included The Telephone Pioneers and Eastman House Rape Crisis Center.  She was particularly proud of her friendship and work with Senator Jack Reed, serving as a lead volunteer during his first campaign for Representative in the 2nd District and continued to hold a lead volunteer position during his first bid for State Senator. Sally took great pride in supporting the dreams and aspirations of everyone she loved and was first to celebrate victories big and small.

Sally was the mother of the late Kymberli A. Irons. She leaves behind daughter-in-law, Melissa Baldwin, grandson Jacob Baldwin Irons, and great-grandchildren Gionni, Juelz, and Ariana. Sally also leaves behind her niece and caretaker, Cheryl Jenkins and many cherished family members and friends.

Sally was predeceased by her sister, Jane Jenkins and brothers, William, Edward, Leo, Thomas, and Earl.
