Ruth Salter Obituary

Ruth Janet (Dove) Salter, 99, of Warwick, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late Warren L. Salter. Born and raised in Lincoln, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Ruth (Chandler) Dove, and sister of the late Susan E. King.

Ruth earned scholastic honors at Classical High School and Rhode Island State College (now URI), where she met Warren on his return from WWII. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

As a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of East Greenwich, she was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the bell choir and tireless volunteer for various events. She was an active member of the Kent Hospital Auxiliary, president of a PTA, as well as a local and regional Girl Scout Leader.

Her hobbies included sewing, rug hooking, painting, and knitting. She was an avid golfer at Potowomut Golf Club where she held various positions on the Board Of Governors Women's Division. For several years she enjoyed live theater at Trinity Rep, and participated in many Women's Wilderness Weekends at URI in her 70s.

Ruth is survived by her children, Nancy Jane Hall of St. Charles, IL, George N. Salter (late Donna) of Charlestown, and Lynn M. McCauley of Warwick, four grandchildren (and one deceased), and five great-grandchildren.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at 10:00AM at the First Baptist Church of East Greenwich, 30 Peirce Street, East Greenwich. Interment will follow at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 from 4:00PM-7:00PM at THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick.
