Richard Peter Watelet, 82, of Narragansett, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Ann Louise (Hargitt) Watelet for sixty years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Ermand and Ruth E. (Jillson) Watelet.
Peter proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Rhode Island National Guard 107th Signal Company. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Bryant College in 1975 and worked as a Business Manager and Accountant for various car dealerships. Peter was a parishioner of St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish in Narragansett and the former St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Warwick; he coached Little League, Boy Scouts, and C.Y.O. Above all else, Peter was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
Alongside his wife, Ann Louise (Hargitt) Watelet of Narragansett, he is survived by his beloved children, Lee Watelet (Deborah) of Groton, MA, Sharon Propst (Cline) of Coventry, and Scott Watelet (Anne) of Chittenden, VT, and six grandchildren.
He was the brother of the late Robert P. Watelet and David L. Watelet.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at 10:00AM at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 864 Point Judith Road, Narragansett. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 from 4:00PM-7:00PM at THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick.
