Peter McGuinness, 78, of Warwick, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2025. He was the loving husband of Kimberly (Keefer) McGuinness. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Joseph and Carol (Litchenstein) McGuinness.
Peter graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in New Jersey and was awarded membership in the Academy Hall of Fame for Basketball. In 1965, his team won the State Championship with Peter’s half-court shot at the buzzer. He went on to work as a General Manager for Custom Supply Company. Peter was a former member of Quidnessett Country Club, Woodland Greens Golf Course, and Warwick Country Club. An accomplished athlete, he won several golf championships and a club championship, including the Quidnessett Country Club Championship in 1983 and a Four Ball Championship. Aside from his golf games, he was also known to have a pretty good tennis game when needed. Along with his athletic interests, he enjoyed being a member of the Rhode Island Football Official Association, refereeing JV, High School, and Pop Warner games. Often mistaken for Terry Bradshaw, Peter was known to make many a fan’s day by signing autographs. He also enjoyed relaxing at his favorite vacation spots at Squam Lake in Holderness, NH and Vero Beach, FL.
Along with his wife, Kim, he is survived by his beloved children, Jaimee Lynn McGuinness (Doug Entwistle) of Warwick, Kristen McGuinness Hay of Exeter, and Matthew Dominguez (Amanda) of West Warwick, and his siblings, Mary Ann Curley (Jim) of Shrewsbury, NJ, Kathy Marantette (Carter) of Hawaii, Paul McGuinness (Annie) of South Carolina, Jim McGuinness (Shelly) of Hawaii, John McGuinness of San Diego, Carol Nicolai of Reston, VA, Mark McGuinness (Bridget) of Hawaii, and Bryan McGuinness of Hawaii. He also leaves five grandchildren, Tyler, Britnee, Kora, Jaya, and Grace, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, the late Peter “Pee Wee” McGuinness, his brother, Joe McGuinness, and his father-in-law/golfing buddy, Scott Keefer “The Judge”, by one day, as they had a preplanned tee time on the other side.
