Marsha Newsom Byrne

Marsha Newsom Byrne, 75, of Wickford and Bluffton, SC, died peacefully on July 4, 2025 at St. Elizabeth Home.  Born in Fairfax, VA, she was the daughter of the late William W. Newsom, Jr. and Florence D. (Standley) Newsom.  She was the sister of the late William W. Newsom, III. 

Marsha was a graduate of Trinity College where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Neuropsychology.  While she spent most of her life focused on being a mother and grandmother, she also enjoyed volunteering in a wide variety of causes.   She loved reading, walking through Wickford, and her beloved dogs.   

She leaves her loving children: Robin B. Murphy & her husband Joseph of Narragansett and Ryan A. Byrne & his fiance Irina Ginzburg of Venice, CA.  Cherished grandmother of Garrett J. Corsi, Andrew P. Corsi, and Olivia R. Byrne.  She was the longtime companion of Alan T. Citron of Wickford and bonus mom/grandmother to his children: David Citron (wife Julie, children Samantha and Charlie) and Lisa Zapatka (husband Andrew).  

Her Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. in THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD, 140 West Main Street, Wickford Village, North Kingstown.  Burial will be private.  Calling Hours are respectfully omitted.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090 or to the Pet Refuge, 500 Stony Lane, North Kingstown, RI 02852 will be appreciated.
