Marianne Jamison Obituary

Marianne Regina Jamison

July 29, 1953 – October 3, 2024

Marianne Regina Jamison (nee Gabrick), 71, died peacefully at home in Wickford, RI on October 3, 2024, with her loving children present. She was a caring and devoted wife and mother, adoring grandmother, and a thoughtful friend to all.  Born July 29, 1953, in Philadelphia, PA, Marianne was the daughter of Stanford J. Gabrick and Cecilia T. (Thomas) Gabrick and was the only sister to Thomas A. Gabrick (deceased), Daniel B. Gabrick (deceased) and John V. Gabrick (wife, Antoinette), of Lambertville, NJ.  Marianne loved sharing memories of her childhood in Philadelphia and trips to her aunt’s farm outside of the city, and always remained fond of her ties to Pennsylvania and home. From 1968 – 1971, she attended the Little Flower School for Girls in Philadelphia. In her yearbooks, friends would share the same sentiment: “Stay as sweet and kind as you are.” Marianne embodied these traits throughout her life.

After school, she worked as a secretary for the federal government and in 1975 married Lawrence W. (“Lon”) Jamison, Jr. They were happily married for 42 years, until Lon’s death in 2017. After early years in Kansas City, MO and Willow Grove, PA, the couple settled in Rhode Island, where they raised their family, and in later years, Marianne found fulfillment caring for differently abled children as a teacher’s aide in North Kingstown, RI.

Nothing compared to the devotion she had for her children and their spouses: Lawrence W. Jamison, III of Portsmouth, RI; Carolyn T. Jamison of Tiverton, RI; Christopher P. Jamison (wife, Kerry) of Jamestown, RI; and Patrick W. Jamison of Tiverton, RI.  Somehow, she always managed time for each of her children, and Marianne had a rare and touching way of connecting with all those close to her.  She was able to give unstinting love.  “Moo-Moo” (as she was called by her eldest granddaughter Lilly,) embraced her role as grandmother and the pet name which captured something of her free-spirited charm. Marianne’s five grandchildren, Lillian C. and Luke A. Jamison, and Christopher L., Hope P., and Helena K. Jamison, were her greatest joy, and she was never happier than when they would nestle with her. She was blessed with a deep and profound Catholic faith, which gave her certainty and grace through life’s tests, and her husband would refer to her as the strongest person he knew.

A defining aspect of Marianne’s life was her special connection with her brother Daniel. Dan lived with many challenges, and together with her brother John they lovingly helped care for him.  Danny had a foremost place in her heart and in family life, and her love for him will always be an inspiration and example to anyone who knew her.

Along with her immediate family, Marianne leaves a devoted extended family of brothers-and-sisters in-law, nieces and nephews, cousins, and treasured friends like Tammy and Bill Sharp, Armig Dakessian, Marry Gormally, and her lifelong friend, Patty Talerico. She drew so much comfort and support from all of those who visited and called or sent thoughtful messages; she got each one, and she was touched by all of you.

Marianne’s family would like to thank her caregivers over the past year and the entire team at Beacon Hospice Care. Our love and gratitude must also go to Todd McKinnon (her “guardian angel”), her loyal dogs Ryder and Joey, and to Sr. Una O’Connor and Sr. Bernadette Hughes of The Sisters of the Cross and Passion, who faithfully brought her the sacrament of communion this past year.  You are all in our hearts.
