Today, we celebrate the life of L. Kenyon Shippee — a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, friend, and proud lifelong resident of Apponaug. He was 93 years old and, until recently, could still be found driving through his beloved Apponaug, the place he proudly called home and often referred to as “God’s Country.” He lived by the motto, “Those with the most toys win!”
Known to many as the former owner of the family business, Williams Corner Dodge in Warwick, Kenyon was deeply connected to his community and never missed an opportunity to share stories, memories, and his love for Apponaug.
Kenyon was predeceased by his beloved companion and best friend, Carolyn Menard, as well as his former wife, Barbara Moone Shippee.
He is survived by his daughter, Lori Berard, and her husband, Dr. Matthew Berard; his son, Alan Shippee; his daughter, Lisa Hickey and her husband, Dan Hickey. He also leaves behind his loving grandchildren: Debra Pascua, Joshua Peltier (Meaghan), Jaimie Galm (Jake), Kaylyn Paige (Cory), Rebecca Neff (Joshua), AJ Shippee (Kate), Veronika Shippee, Alex Shippee, and Courtney Hickey. Additionally, he leaves behind seven great-grandchildren, whom he adored.
Kenyon’s legacy lives on through his family, friends, and the community he cherished so deeply. He will be remembered for his pride in his roots, his love for family, and the countless stories he shared with those fortunate enough to know him.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Kenyon’s life and share memories of a man who truly embodied the spirit of Apponaug. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
