Julia "Juli" Scalzi Obituary

Julia “Juli” Scalzi, 67, of Warwick, Rhode Island, and formerly of Canton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025, at Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, surrounded by the love of family and friends. After bravely facing lung cancer for four years, she left this world with the same grace and courage that defined her life.

Born in Boston to Nina and the late Vincent Scalzi, Juli grew up in Jamaica Plain before moving to Canton, where she graduated from Canton High School 1976. Juli returned to Boston and worked at the Ritz Carlton while joining the Jeannette Neil Dance studio where she performed many spring reportory shows at the John Hancock Hall!!

While working for Goodwin and Proctor, she carried her curiosity and determination into her studies at UMASS Boston, as a member of the National Honor Society she graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Juli was never one to stand still. Drawn by her love of skiing, she made her way to Golden, Colorado, where she embraced the mountains, hiking trails, and the beauty of the outdoors.

Her career in nursing reflected her compassion and strength, from psychiatry at West Pines/Lutheran Medical Center to cardiology at Saint Joseph’s.

There, another of her lifelong passions took shape: photography. Through her lens, Juli captured the wonder of the world, with her work appearing on book covers, travel brochures, and home décor from Fine Art America. Her photographs brightened galleries, coffee shops, and countless homes, sharing her unique way of seeing beauty everywhere.

Life, for Juli, was an adventure. After a personal injury shifted her path, she became a flight attendant with SkyWest Airlines—a role that fueled her love of travel and discovery. For more than 15 years, she explored Europe, Asia, Russia, along with several other countries and even lived in Poland for three years, always returning with new stories, friendships and inspiration.

When she retired to Warwick to be closer to family, Juli embraced her many passions with the same enthusiasm she always had. She could be found knitting, painting, gardening, cooking, practicing Italian, or caring for pets across the U.S. and Europe. She became a member of Philips Memorial Baptist Church and with her nursing skills accompanied them on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic this year. Her home was filled with creativity, laughter, and the warmth of someone who lived fully and deeply valued connection.

Juli will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, her artistry, her generosity, her smile and her ability to form lasting bonds wherever she went. She leaves behind her aunty; many beloved cousins; her “chosen” sister, Jo-Anne (Kraemer) Cole; mother, brother; her beloved “shared” cat Jingles with her wonderful neighbors and countless friends across the world who were touched by her life.

Her burial will be private and arrangements are entrusted to THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Juli’s name to your favorite animal shelter—a cause close to her heart.
