Judith Savage Obituary

Judith C. Savage 75, of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, passed away far too soon after living a praiseworthy life of selflessly serving the needs of others. She generously helped countless people (whether family, friends or strangers) during some of the most challenging events of their lives. Lifting others above herself was her default setting and she was proud to applaud the successes of the many people she loved. She fearlessly fought through illness to maintain her independence and dignity to the very end, before drawing her final breath on August 30, 2024, at Kent Hospital in Warwick, RI.

Mrs. Savage was a member of The Beacon Church in Exeter, and before her retirement in 2000 she was employed in a variety of roles at the Eleanor Slater Hospital in Cranston for well over 27 years, most of that time as a psychiatric aid. She was passionate about her close circle of friends and earned the title of Auntie Judy with many of their children and grandchildren, who will all miss her dearly.

Born in Providence, Judith was blessed to be the devoted wife of the late Richard J. Savage, whom she happily resided with in Melbourne, Florida until his unfortunate passing in April of 2019. Subsequently she was also sadly predeceased by her two very best friends,Elizabeth McWeeney of North Kingstown, RI and Barbara A. O'Rourke (Bowley)of Melbourne, FL., both of whom she loved with all her heart.

Judith was a daughter of the late George E. Lury and Doris L. Lury (Capron). She held her family connections in the highest regard and was saddened over the passing of her loyal siblings, Charles M. Lury of Warwick, RI; Adeline M. LaPerche of Long Beach, CA; Gertrude B. Gilmore (Lury), George E. Lury, Henry N. Nirk, Jr, and Alice M. Marcoccio all from Burrillville, RI. She is survived by her brother, John W. Nirk of Central Falls, RI and her sister, Freda L. Lury of Warwick, RI.

Besides her legion of friends and family members, Judith leaves her loving son, Donald D. Bennett & his wife Adriana, who were both blessed and thankful to be gifted with caring for her in her final years. She was also the mother of the late Barry Sammy Bennett of Melbourne, FL and the stepmother of Glenn Jennings of Coventry, RI.

Judith was a cherished grandmother to Donald S. Bennett of Warwick, RI; Joseph A. Gilmore of Johnston, RI; Paul T. Smith of Coventry, RI; Melissa F. Smith of North Kingstown, RI and Emy Santos of Norwalk, CT. In addition to that, she was a venerable matriarch to 10 great grandchildren, with whom her unstoppable spirit of determination and mischievous joy will be carried by for decades to come.

In short Judith C. Savage was an amazingly strong and beloved woman who will be sorrowfully missed and forever admired.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, 11am at Beacon Church, 100 Exeter Road, Exeter, RI. Her burial will be private.Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
