John Ormerod Obituary

John E. Ormerod, 92, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024, during halftime of the Notre Dame football game. He was the son of the late Herbert Ormerod and Catherine E. (Sullivan) Ormerod. He was born in Fall River, MA, later moving to Providence, RI and finally to Pawtucket, RI where he resided for 67 years.

He attended Saint Patricks School, Saint Raphael Academy, Fordham University and the University of Notre Dame where he played football for the legendary Frank Leahy.

John was a master electrical contractor formerly employed at Columbia Electric, Walco Electric, Worcester Electric and Aubins Tri-State Electric before starting J.O. Electric from which he eventually grudgingly retired.

John is survived by his wife Claire G. (Gendron) Ormerod with whom he would have celebrated their 69th anniversary on October 8th. In addition to Claire, he is survived by children Stephen (Patricia), Lynne (Chris), Lisa (Ken) and Sister Patrice of the Little Sisters of the Poor. He is additionally survived by grandchildren Jamie (Patrick), Erin (Will), Ryan, Kevin, Kia and Amy along with great grandchildren Morgan, Brady, Lainey, Jackson and Kira.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 10:30AM in the Chapel of the St. Jeanne Jugan Residence, 964 Main Street, Pawtucket. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass from 9:00AM 10:15AM. Interment will follow at Swan Point Cemetery, Providence.
