John E. Mathews, 71, of North Kingstown, died peacefully on October 25, 2024 at HopeHealth Center. He was the loving husband of Sharon (St. Sauveur) Mathews and father of Nathan A. Mathews. He was the brother of Peter Mathews of Warwick, RI. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late John E. Mathews and Alice M. (Markey) Mathews.
John owned and operated Eastern Discount in North Providence and was employed as a salesman in the consumer electronics industry for many years. Most recently he worked for Ocean State Transit transporting young students to charter schools. He took great pleasure in working with both the children and his coworkers.
John was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed playing basketball, football and golf. He was a devoted New England Patriots fan. He shared his love for sports with his son Nathan and coached for the North Kingstown Little League.
John loved the outdoors & hiking with his beloved dog and faithful companion “Maggie.” He was an accomplished skier and reveled in time spent on the slopes in Northern New England. John also enjoyed many vacations cruising in the Caribbean to fun destinations with his wife Sharon.
John was a Communicant of St. Bernard Church. He lived his life with faith and kindness. May his memory live on with all the lives he touched.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. in St. Bernard Church, 275 Tower Hill Rd., North Kingstown. Burial in Quidnessett Cemetery will be private.
Calling Hours will be held Friday November 1, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. in THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD, 140 West Main St. North Kingstown.
