John Wallace Aitken, 95, of Warwick, passed away peacefully at The Rhode Island Veterans Home on Saturday, August 16, 2025. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Henry and Agnes (Cameron) Aitken.
John graduated from Lockwood High School in 1947 and received his bachelor’s degree from Brown University in 1951. He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War. Upon returning to Rhode Island, he began his career as an Investment Advisor with GH Walker & Co. John managed or worked for various investment firms (Prudential Securities, Lehman Brothers, Janney Montgomery Scott, Nutmeg Securities), ultimately retiring from Barrett & Company in 2014.
John also was involved in many civic and charitable organizations. He is a Past President of the Providence Rotary Club, was the President of the Board of Children’s Friend & Service and served as President of the Steere House Board during the construction of their facility on the RI Hospital campus. John was an avid traveler. He was also very athletic and loved swimming, tennis and was roller blading well into his eighties. He was a wonderful father, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather.
John is survived by his beloved daughters, Judy Layne Snow of Warwick and Jeri Larson of Summerville, SC, three grandsons, Alexander Snow (Lise), Jason Snow and Nathan Larson, six great-grandchildren, Grayson, Grant, Emelia, Isabella, LyLee and KaysLee and his niece and nephews. John was the brother of the late Henry C. Aitken and the late Elizabeth A. Grue. He was the widower of the late Carlene S. (Silvestri) Aitken and the former husband of the late Jewel C. (Dunn) Aitken.
Funeral Services will be private. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Ave, Warwick.
