James R. “Jim” Goggin, 80, of East Greenwich, died peacefully surrounded by his family on May 14, 2025 at Kent Hospital. He was the loving husband of Susan J. (Weindel) Goggin for 52 years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late James A. Goggin and Rose (Lautieri) Goggin.
Jim was a graduate of Bishop Hendricken High School and Roger Williams University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering. He was employed as an Engineer with Verizon for many years until his retirement.
For many years, Jim volunteered at the East Greenwich Veterans Fireman’s Association, was a member of the EGVFA, volunteer for the East Greenwich Fire Department, and served as Past Deputy Fire Commissioner. He also proudly served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Coast Guard Reserves as a Medic.
He was a lifelong Communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church where he was an altar server in his youth.
He was an avid Boston Red Sox Fan.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his loving children: Sean M. Goggin & his wife Julie of Charlestown and Kelly J. Gormly & her husband Brian of Charlestown. Cherished grandfather of Connor and Nathan Gormly. He was the brother of Patricia R. Amato & her husband John of Prospect, CT, and Michele A. Tucker & her wife Debra Rapa of Warwick. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third Street, East Greenwich. Burial will follow in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be held Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. in THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD, 140 West Main Street, Wickford Village, North Kingstown.
