James Morgan Obituary

James "Jim" Francis Morgan, 76, of Warwick, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025. He was the loving spouse of Gerald "Jerry" Vincent Ferreira, Jr. Born in Cambridge, MA, he was the son of the late Robert Powers Morgan and Mildred M. (Shanahan) Morgan.

Jim graduated from Bishop Hendricken High School, received his Bachelor’s Degree from the New England Conservatory of Music, and moved to England in 1972 for graduate work. Jim was an accomplished musician who received many awards for his work in music ministry. At the time of his passing, he had been serving as the Director of Music of the Greenwood Community Church Presbyterian. Jim also served as organist at numerous other parishes of various denominations for over 50 years.  He was very proud to be Organist and Choirmaster for Grace Episcopal Church in Providence where he directed both the Adult and Children’s Choirs. Jim was also a member of the RI Philharmonic Orchestra playing French bassoon and the similarly named RI Philharmonic Community Orchestra as principal bassoonist under the direction of the great John Eells. 

Blessed with many talents, Jim was also a licensed pilot and flight instructor at TF Green Airport for the former Corporate Air Charter.  As a pilot, Jim worked with Mike Sheridan at Traffic Net for WPRO covering route 95.

He served in the RI National Guard, serving with the 88th Army Band, was a member of the Providence Police Reserve, and was on the state Selective Service Board for many years.

A master gardener, he also enjoyed everything in nature.

Alongside his spouse, Gerald Vincent Ferreira Jr. of Warwick, he is survived by his brother, Robert P. Morgan (Karen) of Ballwin, Missouri, his nieces, Kathryn Huelsebusch (Christopher) and Elizabeth Hunyar (David) and his nephew, Robert Morgan (Erin).

At Jim’s request, all services are private and entrusted to THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Grace Church Organ Fund, 175 Mathewson Street, Providence, RI.
