James Paul Carney, 77, of East Greenwich, formerly of Barrington, passed away at home on Sunday, August 11, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Patricia A. (OBrien) Carney for 46 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mabel (Burke) Carney.
James graduated from East Providence High School, where he played in the school band. For six years, he proudly served in the Rhode Island and Florida National Guard. James later continued his studies at Roger Williams University, Suffolk University, and Providence College, earning a Bachelor Degree and two Master Degrees. He became the Vice President of Human Resources for both Navigant Credit Union and the Valley Gas Company. James previously served as President of New England Regional Utilities Group and as a member of the City of Woonsocket Personnel Board. He volunteered his time for the RI Special Olympics and was a member of St. Lukes Parish in Barrington, serving as a member of the Religious Education Board.
Alongside his wife Patricia, he is survived by his beloved children, Brian B. Carney (Alma) of East Greenwich and Kathryn E. Weiner (Benjamin) of East Greenwich, his brothers, Edward Carney (Elizabeth) of East Providence and John Carney (Judith) of Seekonk, MA, and his grandchildren Victor, Dahlia, Samuel, Theodore, Casondra, and Zariah. He also leaves his nephews John and Michael as well as his niece Meaghan.
He was the brother of the late Joseph Carney.
His Funeral will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024 at 8:30AM from THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00AM at St. Gregory the Great, 360 Cowesett Road, Warwick. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in East Greenwich.
Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, August 15, 2024, from 4:00PM-7:00PM.
