Herbert G. Dyer, Jr., 98, of Exeter, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on June 19, 2025. He was the loving husband of Carol R. (Dame) Dyer. Born in North Kingstown, he was a son of the late Herbert G. Dyer, Sr. and Gertrude M. (Gardiner) Dyer.
Mr. Dyer was employed as a security guard at the University of Rhode Island until his retirement. He also worked at Yawgoo Valley Ski Center and proudly skied on his 90th birthday.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW.
Mr. Dyer was a member of Curtis Corner Baptist Church, member of the Slocum Grange, and served as a Boy Scout Leader. He served as a Firefighter with Exeter Volunteer Fire Department No. 1 and was a lifetime member of Hianloland Fire Co. of West Greenwich.
He leaves his loving children: Peggy J. Denison of Exeter, David H. Dyer, Sr. & his wife Kelly of Maine, Dawn D. Quinn & her husband Michael of Exeter, and Dale A. Reynolds & her husband Todd of Exeter. He was the father-in-law of the late George L. Denison. Cherished grandfather of 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Mark Dyer of North Carolina, Ben Dyer of Virginia, and the late Rowland Dyer, Phoebe Hillman, Reba Whitford, Jane Johnson, Robert Dyer, and Gertrude Greene.
His Committal Service with Military Honors will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2024 at 11:30 AM in the Chapel of the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter. Relatives & friends are invited and asked to meet at the administration building parking lot at 11:15 AM prior.
Calling Hours will be held Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM in THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD, 140 West Main Street, Wickford Village, North Kingstown.
