George Townsend Obituary

George Adelbert Townsend, 82, of Warwick, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025. He was the loving husband of the late Judith Ann (Hack) Townsend. Born in East Meadow, Long Island, New York, he was the son of the late Francis Leith and Madeline Ruth (Burke) Townsend.

George honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He went on to work as the Operations Manager for Leviton Manufacturing Company in Warwick and Norwood Promotional Products in Cranston. George was a member of Hillsgrove United Methodist Church for many years.

He is survived by his beloved children, Timothy P. Townsend and his wife Santana of Palm Bay, FL and John Douglas Townsend and his wife Layne of Foster, his stepchildren, Craig Boyer of Pennsylvania and Melissa A. DiPietro of Warwick, his brothers, Francis L. Townsend, Jr. of Coventry and Robert K. Townsend of South Carolina, and fourteen grandchildren.

He was the brother of the late Carol Vanerson and Diane Townsend.

His Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025 at 6:00PM at THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 4:00PM to 6:00PM.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Funeral Home on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 8:30AM to follow in procession for the Interment with Military Honors at 10:00AM at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516 for Military Veterans.
