Earl Atkin Obituary

Earl R. Atkin, 98, of East Greenwich, died peacefully on February 5, 2025 at South County Hospital.  He was the husband of the late Shirley I. (Hall) Atkin.  Born in Providence, he was the son of the late George Earl Atkin and Irene L. (Stoeffler) Atkin.

Mr. Atkin worked with the New England Telephone Company for 40 years, retiring as Foreman.  He proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII.

He attended Frenchtown Baptist Church for many years.  Earl's faith was very important to him, expressed through his memorization of Scripture, his deep and godly prayers, and his consistent service to his church, always being the last one to leave
making sure all the work was done.  He also made sure he had his fill at
every church supper and always took home the leftovers.  He was an avid
organic gardener, giving his surplus to others.  He certainly believed
his commitment to vitamins and supplements explained his longevity and
was regularly sharing what he found helpful with others.  His children
appreciate the sacrifices he made to allow them to pursue education and
further their lives.

He leaves his loving children: David E. Atkin and his wife Ellen of Coventry, Karen L. Clark and her husband Greg of Bridgewater, VA, Brian E. Atkin and his wife Cindy of Culpepper, VA, and The Rev. Peter S. Atkin and his wife Karen of North Kingstown.  He was the father of the late Janet M. Longenecker and father-in-law of the late Daryl Longenecker.  Cherished grandfather of 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.  He was the brother of Carol H. Dearlove and her husband John of North Kingstown and the late Lorraine R. Atkin.

His Memorial Service will be held Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. in Frenchtown Baptist Church, 1359 Frenchtown Road, East Greenwich.  Burial in the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be private.  Calling Hours are respectfully omitted.
