Dorothy E. “Dot” Taylor, 92, of North Kingstown, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on August 6, 2025. She was the widow of the late Walter S. Taylor, Jr. after 63 years of marriage. Born in Providence on August 4, 1933, she was a daughter of the late John F. Tafe, Sr. and Ethel M. (Lucas) Lindell. Additionally, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Redmond, her sister, Barbara Bassett, and brother, John F. Tafe, III.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna Gould & her husband Norman of Exeter and Nancy Aughinbaugh of North Kingstown, sisters, Claudia Lyons of Florida, Naidiene Crowell of New Hampshire, Ethel Welday of Virginia, brothers, Harold Tafe of Maryland, and Walter Tafe of New Jersey. She was the cherished grandmother of seven grandsons, eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
Longtime residents of North Kingstown, both Dot and Walt were well known for their community volunteer work in many different arenas. She was a member of Slocum Grange, Pomona Grange, and a long-time volunteer at the Washington County Fair. Additionally, she was a 50-year member of 4H. Dot and Walt delivered meals on wheels for many years and were both named Rhode Island Volunteers of the Year in 1994.
In addition to her numerous volunteer hours, in her spare time (which wasn’t much) she enjoyed growing dahlias with Walt and raising chickens. Evenings would not be complete for her until she had an evening chat with her chickens before putting them to bed.
Dorothy was a giving, warm, and caring lady who will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
At Dorothy’s request, her funeral and burial in the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be private. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
Donations in her name may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Arrangements have been entrusted to THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD.
