Claire Sherman

Claire Sherman, 93, of North Kingstown, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on January 17, 2025.  A lifelong resident of North Kingstown, she was the wife of the late Paul E. Sherman.  Born in South Kingstown, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth M. Rogers and Gertrude J. (Goulet) Rogers.

Mrs. Sherman was a lifelong Communicant of St. Bernard Church, where she was a member of the choir and served as Eucharistic Minister.   

She was a graduate of North Kingstown High School and Bryant College.  For 25 years, she worked as a secretary at the University of Rhode Island, retiring from the Graduate School of Oceanography. 

Mrs. Sherman enjoyed antiquing, traveling, quilting, braiding rugs, volunteering, and spending time with her family.

She leaves her loving children: Katherine E. Sherman and her partner Jennifer Sherman of Parks, AZ, Cheryl A. Edwards (The Late Lance Edwards) of Exeter, Gail S. Cunningham and her husband Dave of Exeter, and Steven O. Sherman, Sr. and his wife Ella of North Kingstown.  Cherished grandmother of Carrie Pennington, Gregory Edwards, Jeremy Edwards, Christopher Cunningham, Amy G. Cunningham, Steven O. Sherman, Jr., Philip A. Sherman, Amiee L. Sherman, and the late Allison P. Pennington.  Great-grandmother of Mike T. Jackson, J. Dalton Pennington, Abigail C. Edwards, Kayleigh A. Edwards, Lainey M. Edwards, Jayden P. Sherman, Harris O. Sherman, and Lucy A. Sherman. 

She was the sister of the late Owen D. Rogers.   She also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at 11:00 AM in St. Bernard Church, 275 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown.  Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery.  

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:000 PM in THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD, 140 West Main Street, Wickford Village, North Kingstown.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory to St. Bernard Church will be appreciated.
