Charles Rowe, III Obituary

Charles C. Rowe III, a beloved father and grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on January 1, 2025, in Boynton Beach, Florida, at the age of 81. Born on March 18, 1943, in Eagle Lake, Maine, Charles was the son of Charles C. Rowe II and Mirabel Abbott Rowe. Throughout his life, he exemplified the values of service, generosity, and love for family and community.

Charles was predeceased by his first love and mother of his children Virginia Irene Rowe, his second wife Roberta Rowe, and his brother Frank Rowe. He leaves behind his loving family, including his wife, Margaret Rowe, and his children: Timothy Rowe (April), Cheryl Farrar (Ron), Sarah Ankrom (Jeffrey), and Katherine Tiede (Scott). He also leaves a legacy of 16 grandchildren, with whom he created countless cherished memories, particularly enjoying fun-filled days on the water and tubing in Maine.

Charles was a graduate of the North Kingstown High School class of 1961. He spent many years living in Rhode Island and raised his family there. Professionally, Charles dedicated many years to working at Hospital Trust Bank. His integrity and work ethic earned him respect and admiration throughout his career. For a number of years he enjoyed working as a cook on Friday evenings at Ron & Jean’s Place in Cranston, RI.

A proud veteran, Charles served with distinction as a Master Chief Machinist Mate in the United States Navy, dedicating 30 years of combined service active and reserves. His military career was marked by numerous honors, including the Navy Corps Commendation Medal, reflecting his unwavering commitment and dedication. One of his favorite postings wasaboard the USS Constitution during the 200th anniversary of its commissioning, which included sailing the USS Constitution under its own power for the first time in over a century.

Charles was more than a serviceman; he was a cornerstone of his community. Charles became a Christian in his late twenties. He was a founding member of Exeter Chapel, where he actively contributed to the building committee, served as a deacon and treasurer, and as a youth group leader.

Charles had a zest for life that included various hobbies and interests. He was an avid biker and participated in the 150-mile Bike MS ride multiple times. His love for boating in Maine created treasured moments with his family, especially when taking his grandchildren tubing on the water. His everyday hobby was all about fixing things. He had a knack for figuring things out, and was a master at fixing things in very creative ways.

Charles was known for his incredible generosity, both in spirit and action. His resourcefulness made him a go-to person for many, and his warm heart touched the lives of all who knew him. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, whether fixing a friend's broken item or treating his family to a special meal or ice cream outing. There were many adventures where the car suddenly had a mind of its own, and we ended up getting ice cream!

Charles C. Rowe III will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. His love, kindness, and cheerful attitude will continue to inspire us all. We look forward to the day when we will be reunited with him in heaven.

As we gather to celebrate Charles’ remarkable life, we invite friends and family to join us for a cemetery service on July 2, 2025, at 11am at Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, Rhode Island. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life luncheon, at 12:00 PM at Exeter Chapel in Exeter, Rhode Island.
