Catherine Marie Ibbitson

Catherine Marie Ibbitson, 87, of Johnston, recently of Briarcliffe Preserve, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2025. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Kilroy) Ibbitson.

Catherine was a graduate of St. Xavier Academy in Providence and worked for many years in the Circulation Department of the Providence Journal. She was a parishioner of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish in Johnston and a former parishioner of St. Anthony Parish in Providence and St. Brigid’s Parish in Johnston. Catherine was active in St. Anthony’s Bowling League and St. Anthony’s Church Fatima Society. In her later years, she greatly enjoyed the time and care she received at Briarcliffe Preserve. A devoted aunt, cousin, and friend, she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her beloved nieces and nephews, Patricia A. Mendillo of Cranston, Kathleen Passarelli (Nicholas) of Cranston, Barbara J. Moran (Richard) of Johnston, Stephen A. Ibbitson (Cristina) of Holliston, MA and Marilyn Ayala (Robert) of West Warwick, nine great nieces and nephews and eleven great-great nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Donald Ibbitson and cherished cousin of the late June Kennedy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 29, 2025, at 11:00AM at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 1804 Atwood Avenue, Johnston. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass from 9:00AM-10:00AM at THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick. Interment will be private.
