Angelos Lazarides Obituary

Angelos James Lazarides, 93, of East Greenwich, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 25, 2025. He was the beloved husband of the late Helene K. (Karambelas) Lazarides. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late James and Alexandra (Misirli) Lazarides.

Angelo enjoyed a long and successful career as President of Zorba’s Incorporated, operating The Kent Restaurant on Main Street in East Greenwich from 1956 until 2003. A proud veteran, he honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Deeply devoted to his community, Angelo was active in many East Greenwich civic organizations and a proud member of the East Greenwich Republican Party. He was a dedicated parishioner of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Cranston and served on the Board of Directors for Glenwood Cemetery in East Greenwich.

Angelo's love for New England sports was a passion he shared with many. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Celtics, Red Sox, and Patriots and a fan of URI basketball.

Angelo, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and talented entrepreneur, will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.

His beloved children survive him: Alexis L. Meyer (Robert A.) of East Greenwich, Sophia L. Mascaro (Anthony) of East Greenwich, and James S. Lazarides (Laurie A.) of East Greenwich. He also leaves six cherished grandchildren: Peter Meyer (Erin), Christopher Meyer, Anthony Mascaro, Alexandra Mascaro, Demetra Montoya (Juan), and Nicholas Lazarides; and two adored great-grandchildren: James Montoya and Olivia Meyer.

His funeral will be a time for us to honor his memory. It will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 9:00 AM from The Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick, followed by a Funeral Service at 10:30 AM at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 175 Oaklawn Avenue, Cranston. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery, East Greenwich.
