Ada D. Farrell, 93, of West Greenwich, died peacefully on October 21, 2024 at Westerly Hospital. She was the wife of the late Walter E. Farrell and later companion to Ray Fuller. Born in Cranston, she was a daughter of the late Frank J. Cole and Doris H. (Jacques) Yattaw.
Ada was a homemaker up until Walter's death in 1971. She was also a Sunday school teacher at Quidnick Baptist Church and a Cub Scout den mother in Coventry. She then became the Vice President of D.F. Farrell & Sons, Inc. (Farrell Barrel) after Walter's death. Ada was employed as a hairdresser for a number of years and was later employed as a Purchasing Agent for the Community College of Rhode Island in Warwick until her retirement in 1993. In 1984 Ada earned her Associate of Science degree in Business at CCRI. Ada developed a lifelong passion for global travel, gardening and downhill skiing. Ada's gardens and pool hosted many gatherings of friends and family. She particularly enjoyed summer afternoons by the pool watching her hummingbirds explore her extensive gardens. Ada spent countless hours exploring the Cole family genealogy. She was a member of the Foster Preservation Society and played a crucial role as grant chairperson raising funds for their many restoration projects. In 2017 she was named as the Foster Preservation Society's Person of the year. Ada was described by the society as “a person with a sense of humor, perseverance, tenacity and vivaciousness, she was a powerhouse to recon with. She sets goals. She accomplishes said goals!”
She leaves her loving children: Daniel F. Farrell & his wife Maura of West Greenwich, Richard J. Farrell & his wife Jeanne of Midlothian, VA, and Diane L. Johnson & her husband Gary of Cocoa Beach, FL. Cherished grandmother of Derek F. Farrell, Daniel A. Tacey, Sarah O. Tacey, Danielle L. Johnson, Kelsey A. Johnson, Melissa L. Null, Jared E. Farrell, & great-grandmother of Abigail L. Null and Nathaniel R. Null. She was the sister of Virginia L. Martin of North Scituate, RI, Beverly A. Romanoff of Richmond, RI, Warren B. Yattaw of New Market, MD, and the late Sandra D. Hoyt of Broadalbin, NY. Along with her immediate family, Ada leaves a devoted extended family of brothers-and-sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, cousins, and treasured friends.
Ada's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her neighbors and friends for their loving care over the past few months and the entire care team at the Westerly Hospital.
Her Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 12:00 P.M. in THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD, 140 West Main Street, Wickford Village, North Kingstown. Burial will follow in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery.
