Charles E. Prest, Sr.

Charles E. Prest, Sr., 97,of Coventry, passed away Sunday at home. He was the beloved husband of Catherine (Moran) Prest for 70 years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late John and Ellen (Herriman) Prest.

A Battery Repair Man, Mr. Prest owned Mule Battery Shop in Providence until his retirement in 1998. He served in The United States Army during WW II and survived the sinking of the U.S.S. Coolidge in the South Pacific. He was a life member of the 43rd Division, Battery A, 103rd Field Artillery.

He was the loving father of Stephen J. Prest of North Providence, Donald W. Prest of Wakefield, Joyce C. Prowell of Coventry, Luraellen Wiggins of Saunderstown, Pamela Jean Killoran of Coventry and the late Charles E. Prest, Jr. Devoted grandfather of ten and the late Stephen Prowell, Brian Prest and Jeffrey Prest. Cherished great grandfather of thirteen and great great grandfather of two. He was the brother of the late Sydney, William, Walter, John and James Prest and Madeline Cooney.

His funeral will be held Friday at 7:45 am from THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95) with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in SS John & Paul Church, South Main Street, Coventry. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 pm.
