Theresa E. (McElroy) Whitaker, 85, of Warwick, died peacefully at Brentwood Nursing Home on Wednesday, October 12, 2011. Born in West Warwick, she was the youngest of ten children of the late James McElroy and Mary (Hamilton) McElroy. She was the wife of the late Joseph A. Whitaker. Mr. & Mrs. Whitaker celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Thanksgiving Day of 1997.

Mrs. Whitaker was a Waitress for fifteen years at the former Father & Sons Restaurant until her retirement in 1980.

She leaves her devoted children: Maureen E. Gilbert of Warwick, Thomas J. Whitaker of Narragansett, Daniel J. Whitaker of Gainsville, Virginia. She was the mother of the late Peter E. Whitaker . Cherished grandmother of eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 11:00 am in THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Greenwood, Warwick (Exit 12A off I-95). Burial in the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be private. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory to the American Heart Association, 222 Richmond Street, Providence, RI 02903 will be appreciated.
