Eugene Howard "Punk" Whitford, Jr., 79, of Ten Rod Road, Exeter, died quietly at home on Thursday, August 18, 2011. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Eugene H. Whitford, Sr. and Hope E. (Allen) Brown of Exeter. He was the husband of Mary Lou Whitford.

Mr. Whitford was a proud Dairy Farmer on his family farm and was employed by the State of RI as a Field Maintenance Worker at URI, Sam Thayer Construction Co. and the Town of Exeter Animal Control Officer. He was a member of the Exeter Coon Hunters Assocation, and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren showing dairy cows at the county fairs. He was an avid Red Sox Fan.

Besides his wife and mother, he leaves his five children: Audrey L. Whitford, Eugene H. Whitford, III, Rebecca A. Whitford, Elizabeth H. Whitford, and Abbie L. Whitford, all of Exeter. He was the father of the late Kent D. Whitford. Cherished grandfather of Eugene H Whitford, IV, Hannah, Andrew, Ella, Claton, and Ethan Whitford, all of Exeter. He was the brother of Joyce Lavigne of Alabama, William Whitford of Exeter, Stanley Whitford of Exeter, Robert Whitford of Exeter, Dennis Whitford of New Jersey, Craig Brown of Coventry, Carolyn Hoag of Bradington, FL, Catherine Stickney of North Kingstown, and the late Edward Brown, Jr.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 11:00 am in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Ten Rod Road, Exeter. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD, 140 West Main Street, Wickford Village, North Kingstown. Kindly omit flowers.
