Carmela Ann "Camie" D'Amato Leonard,
went home to the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born May 25, 1957 in Warwick, RI.
Camie was the loving daughter of Donald A. D'Amato & his wife Jean of Warwick and her mother Barbara A. (Danesco) D'Amato and her long-time companion Gerald Calande of Coventry. She was the mother of Charles of New London, CT, Heidi Heinig Rivera of Warwick, her caregiver during these difficult & sad times, and Andrew Leonard of Cranston and her four grandchildren, Jerome, Jose, Faith & Delia. She also leaves her devoted and loving sisters, Donna McKee of California, Theresa Spencer of Rhode Island, Joanne Amaral of Connecticut and her brother William of Connecticut and her devoted friends Bill Ward and Debbie Langlois. She also leaves Mike and Tim Deignan and their families, a niece, a nephew and many cousins.
Camie was a friend to all she met throughout her life. She cared for everyone she came in contact with. She never turned away from those in need, even if all she could give was her love, that was enough.
Camie was the primary caregiver for her father & his wife until her own illness became too debilitating for her to continue.
Camie was a "free spirit" who enjoyed nothing more than taking in the beauty of nature at its best with her beautiful photographs. She loved being outdoors and fell in love with Franconia Notch, NH on one of our many family camping trips around the country. She carried this love to her own children, camping in RI.
One of the things she most enjoyed was walking along the shore at Oakland Beach with her grandchildren, collecting shells & beach stones, and working with the kids in her beautiful flower garden.
Camie loved all kinds of music but she loved the Beatles & Led Zeppelin. She was a faithful and avid fan of the Red Sox and Patriots.
