Dorothea Hawthorne,
90, formerly of Warwick, died peacefully at Kent Regency on Wednesday, June 22, 2011. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Charles L. Whitman and Florence (Berry) Whitman. She was the wife of the late Stephen B. Hawthorne.
Mrs. Hawthorne worked as a volunteer for the Warwick School Department for 30 years. She was a communicant of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the church choir, a teacher and secretary of the Sunday School for 15 years.
She leaves her two sons: Robert S. Hawthorne of Warwick and Brian C. Hawthorne of West Greenwich. She was the loving grandmother of five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and grandmother of the late Lori Ann Hawthorne and Robert Hawthorne.
Her funeral will be held MONDAY, June 27, 2011 at 9:00 am from THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Greenwood, Warwick (Exit 12A off I-95) with a Burial Office at 10:00 am in St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 3257 Post Road, Warwick. Burial will follow in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on SATURDAY from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory to Beacon Hospice, 1 Catamore Blvd, East Providence, RI 02914 would be appreciated.
