Fred R. Thacker, 82, of 33 Fischer Drive, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 9, 2011. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he was a son of the late Fred Thacker and Cecilia (Prunier) Thacker. He was the beloved husband of Joan M. (Houle) Thacker.

Mr. Thacker was a Real Estate Broker for DeFelice Real Estate, Yorktown Realty, and Thacker Realty for many years until his retirement. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church, an Instructor for the RI Aero Modelers, former Chairman of the North Kingstown Democratic Town Committee, member of the North Kingstown Senior Center, where he enjoyed playing pool. He also loved sailing, skiing, painting, and gardening.

Besides his wife, he leaves his four daughters: Patricia Burns of Warwick, Linda Gil of Warwick, Darlene Farrell and her husband Patrick of Saco, ME, and Judith Durand and her husband Christopher of Rehoboth, MA. He was the loving grandfather of Jessica Moynihan , Elizabeth Ugarte, Tonya and Rosheen Farrell, Thomas Monahan ,Taylor Durand , 3 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was the brother of Joyce Richardson of Fort Meyers, FL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, May 13, 2011 at 10:00 am in St. Francis de Sales Church, 381 School Street, North Kingstown. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm in THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD, 140 West Main Street, Wickford Village, North Kingstown.
