Sr. Mary T. Burns C.P., 82, passed away Thursday at Scalabrini Villa, North Kingstown. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Meehan) Burns.

Sr. Mary Burns entered The Religious Sisters of The Cross and Passion at Mount St. Joseph in Bristol on September 14, 1947 and Professed her Final Vows on April 11, 1953. She celebrated her Diamond Jubilee in 2010. She served as the Parish Minister & Coordinator of Religious Education for St. Lucy Parish in Middletown from 1986 until 2008, Principal of St. Luke School in Barrington from 1965 until 1985 and as a Teacher at Corpus Christi School in Wethersfield, CT, St. Francis School in Wakefield and Assumption School in Providence.

She is survived by her Religious Family, The Sisters of The Cross and Passion; 2 nieces Karen Harvey of North Scituate and Elaine Marinaro of Narragansett; and a cousin Frank Ward of Danielson, CT. She was the sister of the late Joanne Burns and Helen E. Henry.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:00 am in St. Gregory The Great Church, 360 Cowesett Avenue, Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Sunday 4-8 pm in THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95). Burial will be private.
