Franklin C. Johnson, Jr.,
89, of North Scituate passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center with his wife and family. He is survived by his cherished wife of 67 years Gladys N. (Jergensen) Johnson. They were married October 30, 1945. He was born in Providence, the son of the late Franklin C. Johnson, Sr. and Georgina (Goodrich) Johnson.
Frank, also known affectionately to friends and family as "Jonny" is a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. In 1948 he graduated with a BS Degree from Bryant College. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during WW II.
He worked most of his career as an Industrial Engineer for several companies including Owens Corning in Lincoln. Starting in 1974 he served as President of Roger Williams Hospital until his retirement in 1983. In his retirement years, he enjoyed gardening, computers and spending time with family and friends.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his three children Douglas F. Johnson and his wife Meredith of Greenville, Linda A. McMahon and her husband Stephen of North Scituate and Ricky L. Johnson and his wife Vickie of Dayton, Ohio. He has 5 grandchildren Aaron Johnson of Coventry, Kristian Osagie of Coventry, Phillip Johnson of San Diego, CA, Christopher McMahon of Sandy Hook, CT, and Father Michael McMahon, Assistant Pastor of St. Augustine Church in Providence. He is also the great-grandfather of 7. He was the brother of Gladys Isibel of East Greenwich and the late Geraldine Smith.
His Funeral Service will be held Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 10:00 am in THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95). Burial, with military honors, will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday 5-7 pm.
