Walter E. Butcher, 82, of North Kingstown, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family at South County Hospital on Wednesday, November 7, 2012. He was the beloved husband of V. June (Lonergan) for 63 years. Born in Springfield, MA he was a son of the late William F. Butcher and Evelyn R. (Roberts) Butcher.

Mr. Butcher proudly served in the U.S. Navy as an AS1 for twenty years. He was a Boy Scout Troop Leader in Florida and Rhode Island. He was a member of SAR, FRA, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and collected Militeria.

Besides his wife, he leaves his two children: Michael E. Butcher and his wife Leanne Bourque of North Kingstown and Paula A. Nelson and her husband Eric of North Kingstown. Cherished grandfather of Jesse A. Fogg of North Kingstown, Kathryn T. Butts of PA, Alexandria M. Nelson of North Kingstown, and great-grandfather of Ian Fogg, Noah Fogg, Thomas Butts, and Kaylie Butts. He was the brother of the late William Butcher, Ruth Lambert, and Catherine Horne.

Relatives and friends are invited to meet at the administration building at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 9:45 am for a committal service to follow in the chapel. Calling Hours are respectfully omitted.
