Reverend A. Royston Cochran, 92, of Wakefield, died peacefully on Monday, September 17, 2012 at Scallop Shell Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Catherine S. (Anderson) Cochran. Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late John M. Cochran and Jessie (Holt) Cochran.

Reverend Cochran was a graduate of Pawtucket High School, Hobart College, Virginia Theological Seminary, Brown University and Boston University. He served as the Assistant to the Rector at Christ Church, Cambridge, MA, Assistant to the Rector at Trinity Church in Newport, Rector of Trinity Church, Pawtucket, Rector of St. Paul’s Church, Natick, MA, Assistant to the Rector at St. Martin’s Church, Pittsfield, MA, and Interim Rector of Church of the Ascension, Wakefield. He also worked for the Rhode Island Department of Human Services in social work, supervisory, and administrative positions.

An avid community activist, Reverend Cochran volunteered for the AARP Tax Aide Program, served on the Seniors Helping Others Advisory Board, North Kingstown & Exeter F.I.S.H. Organization, and Meals on Wheels. He was a member of Jenks Lodge F & AM, Pawtucket, RI, Parker Royal Arch Chapter, and Sir Galahad-Natick Commandry K.T. of Natick, MA.

He leaves his children, Janet E. Cochran, John B. Cochran, Catherine A. Cochran, and stepchildren, Thomas A. Marcus, William A. Marcus, and Mary E. Weber. He was the brother of the late Phyllis C. Miller.

His Requiem Eucharist will be held Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 11:00 am in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 55 Main Street, Wickford. Burial in the Old Narragansett Church Cemetery will be private.
