Elsie Martin Whyte,
89, of Wickford, RI died in her sleep at home on Monday, July 30, 2012. She was the daughter of the late Royland C. Martin and Ada (Wright) Martin. She was the beloved wife of Rollin C. Whyte to whom she was married for 65 years.
Elsie grew up in Washington Park, Providence and graduated from Classical High School and the University of Rhode Island. She was a charter member of the Wickford Yacht Club, St. Paul's Church, the North Kingstown Senior Center, and the North Kingstown Women's Club. She worked at the North Kingstown Tax Assessor's office, Post Road Reality, and Christmas in Wickford.
She is survived by her son, Rollin (Skip) Whyte and his wife, Barbara Jackson, and her daughters Nancy Whyte Sherman and her husband Edwin, and Carol Whyte Rau and her husband Steve. She was the fashionable grandmother of Meggan and Kendall Rau, Lara Whyte, and E. Mason Sherman.
She was the sister of the late Lois Martin Watson of Kingsport, TN and George Martin of Berkely, CA. She was the much loved aunt of John Watson, Randy Watson, Jane Watson Wright, Mimi Watson Abels, Betty Anne Watson, Susan Martin and Margery Martin Jordan and their children.
Elsie always did her very best to connect with people and make them feel special. She remembered everything about everyone! This became increasingly difficult as she lost her hearing.
Her Requiem Eucharist will be held on Monday, August 6, 2012 at 1:00 pm in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 55 Main Street, Wickford, with a collation immediately following at the Wickford Yacht Club. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory to VNS, 14 Woodruff Ave., Narragansett, RI 02879 will be appreciated.
Arrangements have been entrusted to The Cranston-Murphy Funeral Home of Wickford.
