Avis L. (Briggs) Willis, 96, of North Kingstown, died peacefully on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Roberts Health Centre. Born in North Kingstown, she was a daughter of the late James A. Briggs and Avis E. (Arnold) Briggs. She was the wife of the late Jedidiah G. Willis.

Mrs. Willis was a Teacher at Wickford Elementary School for many years until her retirement. She was a member of the Lafayette Advent Christian Church for many years, a member of the Washington County Retired Teachers Association, the Central Retired Teachers Association, the Sons & Daughters of Liberty, Young at Heart, North Kingstown Senior Center, and the Womens Guild of the First Baptist Church in Wickford. She enjoyed playing the piano, knitting, and tutoring children during the summer. Mrs. Willis was the last remaining member of the North Kingstown High School Class of 1933.

She leaves her two beloved daughters: Frances P. Bach and her husband John of Centereach, Long Island and Rosalind L. Willett and her husband William of East Greenwich. She was the mother of the late Everett G. Willis. Cherished grandmother of Roberta Newell of Warwick, Keith Willett of Potosi, Missouri, Paul Manfra-Willis of Cranston, great-grandmother of Andrew Newell, Jacob Newell, and Emma Newell, all of Warwick, and great-great-grandmother of Hailey Pennebaker and Kali Pennebaker, both of Missouri. She was the sister of the late Minnie Briggs, Amy Briggs, and Paul Briggs.

Her Funeral Service will be held Thursday, July 19, 2012 at 11:00 am in THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD, 140 West Main Street, Wickford Village, North Kingstown. Burial will follow in the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory to Roberts Health Centre (Activities Department), 25 Roberts Way, North Kingstown, RI 02852 will be appreciated.
