Marvin A. "Bud" Perry

Marvin A. "Bud" Perry, 89, of North Kingstown, died peacefully on Monday, June 25, 2012 at South County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Born in Johnson City, New York, he was the son of the late Arthur L. Perry and Ethel S. (Reynolds) Perry of Greene, NY. He was the loving husband of Mary E. "Betty" (McGrath) Perry.

Mr. Perry was employed as a quality assurance specialist in aerospace for the Defense Contract Administration Service Office for twenty years. He then traveled extensively for the Martin Marietta Corporation, overseeing construction of key components of the Space Shuttle fuel tanks and later troubleshooting Titan rocket engine fuel systems.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as an Aviation Machinist Mate 2c in the Asiatic Pacific, Philippine Liberation, and during the occupation of Tokyo. He met his wife of 69 years at a USO dance in Newport, RI in 1942.

He enjoyed woodworking, sailing, gardening, and avidly attended his grandchildren's sports, musical and theatrical events. In his retirement years, he and his wife traveled and he became a Patriots and Red Sox fan.

Besides his wife, he leaves his three children: Virginia M. Perry-Gardiner, Curtis J. Perry, MD and his wife Barbara J. Guillette, MD, and Keith A. Perry, MD and his wife Debra Perry, CRNA, all of North Kingstown. He was the cherished grandfather of six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Barbara Reagan of Greene, NY and Arlene Scott of Melbourne, FL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 9:00 am in St. Francis de Sales Church, 381 School Street, North Kingstown. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm in THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 140 West Main Street, Wickford Village, North Kingstown.

In lieu of flowers, gifts to St. Francis de Sales Church, 381 School Street, North Kingstown, RI 02852 will be appreciated.
