William H. Maine,
Chief CFD, Retd., died peacefully at home on Thursday, May 17, 2012. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Henry Maine and Madeline (Holman) Maine. He was the beloved husband of Joan G. (Fedor) Maine.
Mr. Maine was the Chief of the Cranston Fire Department and the proprietor of Maine Caterers until his retirement. He proudly served in the Coast Guard during WWII.
Bill was a Communicant of St. Bernard Church, the Retired Fire Chiefs Association of Rhode Island, the Wickford Club, a lifetime member of the Republican Senatorial Inner Circle, North Kingstown Republican Town Committee, North Kingstown Senior Center, active member of the Swingers Choral Group, and a lifetime member of the International Order of Old Bastards.
Besides his wife and her loving family, he leaves his son, William T. Maine and granddaughter, Jillian Maine of North Providence. Cherished brother of Henry Maine of North Fort Meyers, FL, Herbert Maine of Cranston, Daniel Maine of Warwick, Barbara Burgess of FL, Sally Grayson of TN, Joan Gannon of North Kingstown, and Kathleen Maine of Warwick. He was the brother of the late Walter Woll and Marie Gallant.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 21, 2012 at 10:00 am in St. Bernard Church, 415 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD, 140 West Main Street, Wickford Village, North Kingstown.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 or to St. Bernard Church will be appreciated.
