Harold J. McEwen, 89, of North Kingstown passed away Tuesday at home. He was the husband of the late Gertrude V. (Gallagher) McEwen. Born in Bronx, New York, he was a son of the late Harry and Eleanor (Becker) McEwen.

Mr. McEwen retired as a Security Manager for Sears & Roebuck Co. and was previously a Supervisor of Loss Prevention for Lord & Taylor Co. on 5th Avenue in New York City as well as a Security Representative for Republic Aviation on Long Island, New York.

He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Parish in North Kingstown, where he served as an usher. He was the Founder and Executive Director of North Patchogue Youth Athletic Program; President and Founder of Suffolk County, New York, Connie Mack Baseball Association. In addition, he wrote a column for the local newspaper on Long Island, New York, and was a member of the American Society for Industrial Security and the Retail Merchants Loss Prevention Association.

He was the beloved father of William G. McEwen and his wife Margaret of North Kingstown. Caring brother of Kathleen Davis of New Jersey. Loving grandfather of Brian McEwen, Jenine Clarke and Jill Forbes. Cherished great-grandfather of Michael and Tiernen McEwen and William and Hannah Clarke.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, April 12, 2012 AT 10:00 am in St. Francis de Sales Church, 381 School Street, North Kingstown. Burial will be private. Calling hours respectfully omitted.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory to a charity of one's choice would be appreciated.
