Arthur P. Soares, 72, of West Warwick passed away Saturday at Philp Hulitar Hospice Center. He was the beloved husband of Susan (Lawrence) Soares. Born in West Warwick, he was a son of the late Joseph C. and Hilda C. (Borao) Soares.

Mr. Soares served as a Reserve Officer before becoming an Animal Control Officer for the West Warwick Police Department. He served in The United States Coast Guard during the Vietnam War. Mr. Soares was also the owner of Valley Sign Co. of West Warwick. He was past commander of American Legion Post 2 in West Warwick and a member of the West Warwick Fraternal Order of Police and the Veterans Counsel of West Warwick.

He was the loving father of Scott Soares and his wife Heather of Cranston, Steven Soares and his wife Lorrie and Matthew Soares, all of West Warwick and Sindy Soares and her fiance Brian Stabile of Coventry. Cherished grandfather of Scott Soares, Savannah Soares, Sage Soares and Carissa Campanini. Caring brother of Raymond Soares and Charlotte Correia, both of West Warwick, Barbara Zukowski of Coventry and the late Joseph Soares and Lorraine Andre.

His funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:00 am from THE PRATA-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Anthony Church, Maple Avenue, West Warwick. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday 5-8 pm.
