Barbara M. Davis,
85, of Exeter, died peacefully on Monday, March 19, 2012 at Shady Acres Nursing Home. Born in Cranston, she was a daughter of the late Harry S. Davis and Margaret M. (Cameron) Davis.
Ms. Davis was a graduate of Pembroke College in Brown University, earning her Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry in 1948 and a graduate of Simmons College in 1956, where she earned her Masters in library science, later serving as Vice President of the Library School Alumni.
She was employed by the Cabot Corporation for many years. Ms. Davis began as Assistant Research Librarian in the Research and Development Department, and retired in 1987 as Manager of the Technical Information Center. Her work in library science may be found in numerous publications. She was a member of the American Chemical Society, Special Libraries Association, Boston Chapter Sci-Tech Group, and Representative to the Library Binding Institute.
A staunch Republican, Ms. Davis proudly served on the Greater Boston Young Republican Club, Brookline Young Republican Club, Lexington Republican Town Committee, and the Women's Republican Club of Lexington as Treasurer from 1981 to 1987.
Barbara leaves many cousins and friends.
A private graveside service was held in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory to Brown University, P.O. Box 1877, Providence, RI 02912 or to your local animal shelter will be appreciated.
