Virginia J. (Gardiner) Soderlund, 99, of Wickford, died peacefully at South County Hospital on Friday, October 29, 2011. Born in Warwick, she was a daughter of the late Howard L. Gardiner, Sr. and Eva F. (Johnson) Gardiner. She was the wife of the late Russell Soderlund and mother of the late Richard G. Soderlund and Bruce Soderlund.

Mrs. Soderlund and her husband Russell owned and operated Russell's Drugstore of Wickford until her retirement. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wickford, where she served on the Women's Guild, and was a member of the Beechwood Senior Center.

She leaves her beloved grandchildren: Glenn E. Soderlund of Wickford, Peter Soderlund of Colorado, Karen Simpanen of North Scituate, Mara Lorham of Idaho, Elishia Houghton of Colorado, Susan Silva of Coventry, and 14 great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Howard L. Gardiner, Jr.

Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 11:00 am in The First Baptist Church in Wickford 34-44 Main Street, Wickford. All are welcome to attend. Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery, North Kingstown. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory to The First Baptist Church in Wickford will be appreciated.
