James H. Ortmann, 91, of North Kingstown, passed away on February 18, 2010. Born in Norwalk, CT on December 28, 1918, he was a son of the late Louis and Grace Ortmann. He was the husband of Audrey K. Ortmann.
Mr. Ortmann was a graduate of Casey Jones School of Aeronautics. He was an employee of Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Factory in the Inspection Department as well as with the US Government at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH as a Foreman for aircraft overhaul and repair.
He retired from The US Naval Air Station, Quonset Point, RI , in aircraft overhaul and repair and later as Supervisor in the Quality Control Department. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 322nd Air Engineering Squadron, Fairbanks, Alaska during WWII. Mr.
Ortman was a member of Quidnessett Baptist Church and N.A.R.F.E.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his two children, James C. Ortmann of Parkersburg, WV, and Susan O. Place of North Kingstown; two grandchildren, James E. Place of Astoria, NY and Stacey A. Place of North Providence. He was the brother of Arline Kirkham of Brookfield, WI.
His funeral service will be held Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 11:00 am in THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD, 140 West Main Street, Wickford Village, North Kingstown. Interment will follow in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home from 9:00 to 11:00 am prior to the service.
