Walter F. O'Reilly, 89, died at Kent Regency Center on Thursday, July 8, 2010. He was the loving husband of Doris (Corbett) O'Reilly for 67 years. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late Charles J. and Agnes (Hennessy) O'Reilly.
He graduated from Brooklyn College, class of 1942 and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Until his retirement in June 1991, he served as Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Data Services of AIPSO. Living most of his life in the New York area, he migrated to Rhode Island, settling in Governor's Hill for more than twenty-five years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons Bruce and his wife Susan Strangis of Cranston, RI and Brian and his wife Carol Miles of Dix Hills, NY, three grandchildren, Kurt of Boston, MA, and Kathleen and Kerry of Dix Hills, NY.
Following his retirement, he devoted his energies to volunteer work, including serving as Tax Counselor to the elderly, Senior Health Insurance Plan Counselor, delivered meals on wheels, and Vice President of Governor's Hill Condominium Association.
His funeral will be held Monday at 10:00 am from THE URQUHART-MUPRHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in St. Joseph Church, 854 Providence Street, West Warwick. Burial will follow in R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Sunday 2-5 pm.
