Alice E. McManus, wife of the late Edward J. McManus, and resident of Warwick, RI for over 50 years, passed away on May 25, 2010.
She is survived by her children: Margaret Marinelli of Warwick, RI; Alice Lawton of Mandeville, LA; and Edward J.McManus, Jr, of Narragansett, RI. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Daniel Lawton, Margot Lawton, Alicia Marinelli, and Stephen Marinelli; her sister Dorothy McGregor of Wharton, TX; her brother Albert Bloom, of Indianapolis, IN; and her sister-in-law, Ida McManus of Providence, RI.
Mrs. McManus was born on July 4, 1924, in Cranston, RI, the daughter of the late Carl Oscar and Ellen Matilda Bloom. She is a graduate of Cranston High School and of the Edgewood Secretarial School, where she was the recipient of the President's Award for scholarship.
She was employed by the Shepard Company as private secretary to the Vice President and later in the engineering office of Elmwood Sensors. Mrs. McManus retired in 1987 as a secretary to the Dean of Medicine at Brown University. She was devoted to her family, very proud of her Swedish ancestry, and known for her expert baking. Her memory and recipes will live on in the hearts and homes of her grateful children and grandchildren.
Her funeral will be held at 9:45 am from THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Greenwood, Warwick (Exit 12A off I-95) with a service at 11:00 am in St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 389 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick. Burial will follow in the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
