William J. McGovern, Sr., 67, of South Kingstown, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 2, 2010 with his loving family by his side. He was the loving husband of Dianne (Nelson) McGovern. They celebrated their 45 th wedding anniversary in March. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late John J. and Lillian R. (Payette) McGovern. He lived in Rhode Island and Florida for most of his life. Mr. McGovern was a Vietnam era U.S. Marine Corps Veteran. He was a Patrolman and Detective with the North Kingstown Police Department from 1965 to 1978, a Patrolman/Corporal with the Rhode Island State Park Police until 1987, a special United States Marshall until 1995, and worked as a Security Manager for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) until retiring in 2004 due to illness. Mr. McGovern enjoyed golfing and traveling. His is survived by his three loving children: Kelley M. Kilday and her husband Gordon of North Kingstown, his son, CMSgt William J. McGovern, Jr., RIANG of Warwick, and his daughter, Heather McGovern of Providence. Cherished Grandfather of Jack and Molly Kilday of North Kingstown. He was the brother of James R. McGovern of Exeter. He also leaves his beloved dog, Lexi. Calling hours and burial with Military Honors will be private.
